Champaign County Divorce Records

The Champaign County court system maintains divorce records, which document marriages dissolved by the local Circuit Court. These files encompass various materials, such as petitions, final decrees, settlement agreements, support orders, service returns, answers, and enforcement filings. In 2024, the Circuit Court in Champaign County received 475 new divorce filings, according to the Illinois Judiciary’s Annual Reports. This total was split between 190 divorces involving children and 285 divorces without children.

In Champaign County, divorce records are presumed open to the public, as stated by Illinois Supreme Court Rule 8. Consequently, individuals seeking access can approach the Circuit Clerk’s Office, the sole custodian of the county’s court records.

The Clerk has a File Viewing Room at the local courthouse where divorce case documents/information can be examined. Moreover, such cases can be viewed remotely via the Clerk’s Case Information portal, and individuals can purchase copies of divorce records online by completing and submitting the Civil Case Request Form.

However, the Clerk does not release confidential records unless a requester meets the statutory eligibility requirements.
